September! School's right around the corner...

Somehow I'm sitting here at 6:50 in the morning alone, with just a cup of coffee. I thought I'd quickly bring you up to speed before my day gets to a whirlwind speed, which should happen shortly.

Dylan has already left. My friend, Sandra, who is a nurse, works 12-hour shifts. On the nights that she works until 7:30 a.m. and her husband wants to leave for work by 6:15 or so, Dylan (and sometimes Sean) will go over and babysit her sleeping children for the 1.5 hour time-frame. After the babysitting gig, Dylan will go put in his 8 hours at Thunderbird. Thankfully there are no more 12-hour days for this summer...in fact, Dylan and his co-workers are putting away all of the jumps and other horse show paraphenalia.
Dylan has been having tooth pain recently and went to the dentist and found out that one of his wisdom teeth's root is messing with the nerve of the tooth beside it : ( So he'll have at least 2, maybe 4, wisdom teeth removed. We did discover that there is a narrow window of time where he is double insured...through us until he's 19 and at Kwantlen starting yesterday. So if all goes well he'll be able to have this oral surgery for very little out-of-pocket expense. Fingers crossed.
Dylan and Haley, bless their little hearts, are doing quite well and will happily celebrate 1 year at the end of this month! Here is Haley, sharing a bowl of cereal with Nick. His idea, not hers. But totally okay with her. In fact, she shared a can of pop with Patience at dinner the other night. Not even I would do that. I mean, they drank out of the same can. You know, floaties and all...
Jimmy and John, our Chinese teachers, are on their last 5 days here! Jimmy loves to cook and has either cooked dinner or helped me cook dinner for the past 2 weeks or so. Don and I love his cooking. Simple, spicy. It's not your typical take-out Chinese food, but feels much healthier. The kids love rice. I have been learning how to make a few meals and last night I even made some delicious beef and broccoli and a potato dish. I bought a rice cooker, because we now have rice with every dinner. And I bought a 40-lb bag of rice, because the 20-lb bag I bought 3 weeks ago is already gone.
Last weekend Jimmy cooked this lunch and then invited 2 other Chinese teachers over, along with their homestay host. It was delicious, and I think the other teachers were so happy to have authentic Chinese food! Jimmy, the one in the blue shirt, teaches math, and John, the one in the jacket, teaches politics and is a vice-principal. John doesn't cook at all, but really enjoys Jimmy's cooking. They work at the same school, so they were friends before this trip.
So now it's 7:25 and Don is showered and ready to go to Richmond, Patience and Nick are both up. Nick has already pitched a fit and is now snuggling me because he wore his little self out. Jordyn, who always has a hard time falling asleep at night, sleeps late each morning to compensate.
Sean went to Justin's last night to be ready for a very early departure for an end-of-summer camping trip at the Furse's cabin. On some lake, which I can't remember the name of. They were leaving at 4:00 this morning so they could do fishing along the way. They come home at some time on Monday because Russ has to be at school on Tuesday morning. Sean doesn't start until Wednesday.
Patience starts Grade 1 on Tuesday, and Dylan begins university on the same day. That will be a cute picture : )
Well, my mind is now blank so I guess you're all up-to-date with the happenings here at the funny farm.

Thank you so much for the upddate mom, I was wondering what was going on with all of those people in that house. "Full House" is the most appropriate of names for your blog....
